The Valley Guitar Studio was recently created by Los Angeles Jazz Guitarist Doc Dosco. Doc's professional credits include many noted recording artists in the popular and jazz music fields. He has played, recorded with, or written songs for the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Anthony, The Drifters, The Diamonds, The Platters, The Coasters, Freddie Cannon, Wolfman Jack, Nina Hagen, Ian Whitcomb, Big Jay McNeely and Motown recording artists Black Russian. Doc Dosco has also played, written or recorded with jazz greats such as Blue Mitchell, Eddie Harris, Red Halloway, Joe Albany and Herman Riley.
Doc has taught off and on for many years, however he has recently taken on a much broadened teaching schedule. Although specializing in jazz, Doc offers guitar instruction for students with basic guitar skills that want to forward their abilities in various styles.
Intermediate and advanced guitar instruction:
Jazz players: Learn scales, chords, picking & fingering techniques, ear training, play over changes, develop blistering speed. In addition, learn chord melodies, and jazz and standard songs. Blues and Rock players: Learn to riff and solo. Learn to think outside the box.

Scales, chords, arpeggios are great to know, however the challenge is to 'discover' how to get in the 'zone' with your solos, and let the music come through you. Turn off your brain and let you fingers do the walking...
With Doc Dosco you will cover all the basics (scales, chords, arpeggios). But that's just the start. Beyond that, learn how to phrase, how to build and develop a melodic theme ...and work off it. Learn how to hear a melody in your head and then play it. Then the big one.... learn how to get into the zone and 'let go'.

I utilize a computer transcription program with a vast study library of the world's greatest jazz guitarists to help students expand their horizons. Even if students have to drive a ways to get to me, I will spend the time to make sure the lessons are worth it.. "

Doc's history:
Doc began playing in rock bands at 13, but soon picked up classical guitar and was subsequently awarded a scholarship to the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, Canada. In his early days, he also played in many popular rock groups and show bands in Western Canada. However, at the age of 23, he ventured upon a career move that brought him to sunny Southern California.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles to learn jazz from Dick Grove at the world renowned Dick Grove School of Music, he studied jazz theory, song writing and improvisation -- while at the same time teaching a guitar course at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California. Soon after, he was fortunate to fall in with a major record producer, and became a full time performing, recording and studio guitarist . And, as his credits show, Doc has been involved with numerous professional musical endeavors over the years.
